Project Cara from Big Wool Knits by Rowan

Posted on September 11 2017

This is an ideal first sweater project for those of you who have recently learnt to knit and now want to create a cosy garment to wear. If it is the first time you have made a garment then it is essential that you work a tension square to ensure you are knitting to the correct tension for the project. As someone who used to avoid this stage in the past, I now cannot recommend it enough - there is nothing more disappointing then finishing a garment only to find it is way too big or too small! However, there is no need to totally despair as at least you can simply unravel and knit again!

Cara is a sweater available to knit in sizes XS to XXL on needle sizes 9mm & 10mm. The super chunky yarn ensures that your project will grow quickly and although the design is relatively easy - stocking stitch throughout - its simplicity makes this sweater stylish and perfect to wear throughout the winter.  Both back and front are identical to knit with simple 'roll' hems. I adapted the pattern slightly by having a rib cuff to the sleeve simply because I like to have something tight around my wrist. The version above is XS and I chose to knit the sweater in an alternative super chunky yarn - 'Maxi' yarn by Erika Knight in Milk Chocolate.
